Website helps with RoHS compliance

RS Components has added advanced functions to its website to further ease its customers' RoHS compliance efforts. With businesses still unaware of the exact details of the RoHS Directive, and what is required of them to achieve compliance, RS is providing unparalleled support. Klaus Goeldenbot, RS UK General Manager, said: 'RoHS is almost on us but our customer feedback suggests that not everyone is ready'.

'The main issue facing customers is their ability to demonstrate compliance'.

'Through the RS website functionality and its new tools, any business can be certain of each and every product's compliance status'.

The first of the new website functions is a printable certificate of RoHS conformance, a link to which appears next to every compliant product within the online catalogue.

Simply clicking on this link brings up the certificate, which includes the standard statement of RoHS compliance and full product information including RS stock number and manufacturer details.

This new service helps businesses to meet the legal requirements of the Directive to maintain product records for four years, and show 'due diligence' that they have done everything possible to comply.

For those products whose compliance status is yet to be confirmed, customers can use a new, upgraded version of RS's online 'Notify me' service.

Users can add products to a personal RoHS watch list and this service allows users to request an automatic e-mail notification when there is a change in the product's compliance status.

Further details on both new services can be found at the RS RoHS Knowledge Centre.

The new RoHS services are building on RS' existing credentials and support for the Directive.

Earlier this year, RS became the first UK distributor to be awarded the BSI's RoHS Trusted kitemark, one of the best known and respected certification marks in the world.

That stands alongside RS's existing ISO 9001 and ESD S20.20 approvals, which provide further reassurance for electronics purchasers.

In addition, RS is continuously carrying out random in-house testing to ensure full compliance information for all products.

Goeldenbot continues: 'Businesses need to understand that planning for RoHS can require a lot of work, but even now it is not too late'.

'With the complete RS suite available to all, those businesses can now get help every step of the way to meet the requirements of the RoHS Directive'.

'Any business still struggling to meet understand and meet their obligations can find help and guidance online at rswww.com/rohs'.
