Connectors are made for wearable electronics

Novel connectors are designed for quick release of wearable electronic equipment such as headsets, helmets, personal role radios and weapon systems.
Fischer Connectors has developed a novel connector designed for quick release of wearable electronic equipment such as headsets, helmets, personal role radios and weapon systems. The critical feature of the KSE-SSC connector is Fischer Connectors' patented Clic-Loc emergency breakaway system, which allows snatch release of wearable equipment. Shell sizes 102, 103, 1031, 104 and 105 (ie socket diameters 10 to 19mm) correspond with pull-off forces from 16 to 60N.

Fully sealed to IP68 when mated, the KSE-SSC is ideal for applications in defence including Future Soldier Technology and military simulation and training systems, emergency services, and other areas where the wearer may need to quickly shed a piece of equipment.

A unique tactile keying mechanism complements orientation marks and allows the connector to be safely mated in conditions of limited visibility.

Keyway alternatives safeguard against mating the wrong connectors.

Configurations for the KSE-SSC connector range from a single way (coaxial) for radios, GPS antennas etc, to up to 27 ways for control and signalling applications.

A heat-shrink cable sleeve is fitted as standard, but the KSE-SSC can also be supplied as a complete, tested assembly with overmoulded strain relief boot and sealing caps.

When in place, the sealing caps provide protection to IP68.

The connector comes in matt black chrome and silver chrome plated variants.

The KSE-SSC can be retrofitted to equipment which currently has a hardwired link to the user, with enhanced safety and practicality.

Now available from Aerco is the S820, a newly designed, snap-action switch from Schaltbau that has many advantages over its predecessor, the popular S800 series. Built with an improved, stronger mechanism and a more rugged construction that increases its resistance to shock and vibration, the S820 has a current carrying capacity of 20A, twice that of the S800. The new design also takes the opportunity to isolate the normally open and normally closed contact sets, thus separating the circuits and eliminating the risk of flashover.

Built in a transparent case that makes the contact condition evident at all times, the forced contact mechanism guarantees a failsafe operation of the normally closed contact set in the event of overload or spring failure.

Enclosures add power distribution

A comprehensive family of power products caters for all levels of power demand in server enclosures.
Increased power densities, particularly in server enclosures, have placed increasing emphasis on bringing power into the rack in an efficient way, monitoring and controlling the power input and generally managing the power distribution within the enclosure. APW Enclosure Solutions has introduced a comprehensive family of power products to cater for all levels of power demand. The standard power strips have been upgraded; they are now available in 13, 16 and 32A versions.

Modular ipower intelligent power strips, which feature RS232 remote control and monitoring, local LED or LCD display and optional network integration, are scalable up to 30 outlets.

Applications with high numbers of individual servers installed in the rack can be powered using high density strips, which offer up to 48 individual outputs, have branch circuit overload protection and local monitoring, are available in single and three phase versions and can have single or dual feeds.

Sequential switching reduces the initial inrush currents on start-up and enables individual sockets to be remotely switched.

The 1U 19in high power distribution unit provides a single 32 or 63A power connection with the ability to feed up to 96 individual units.

To manage and monitor the power distribution over the network, the Netcom unit, which supports SNMP, telnet and web, monitors two ipower strips - up to 60 individual outlets - for total current, voltage and power.

To provide additional security, circuit protection strips, fitted with fuses, MCBs or RCBs are available in a variety of sizes and configurations.
