Inductors aim for distributed power
A new series of power shielded surface mount (SMT) power inductors is designed for use in local DC/DC power conversion.
A new series of power shielded surface mount (SMT) power inductors is designed for use in local DC/DC power conversion. The new PF0464/PF0465 series, which are available as lead-free components, have a high current rating of 4.5A in a low-profile (3mm height for the PF0464 and 4mm height for the PF0465), small footprint package (7.2 x 7.2mm maximum) with inductance values up to 100uH. Their extended operating temperature of -40 to +125C makes them suitable for high-temperature applications such as telecomms and consumer electronics products.
The PF0464/PF0465 series has a reliable pad design, with lower direct current resistance (DCR) and higher operating temperature than similar power shielded SMT inductors.
This means less increase in the temperature of the inductor at a given DC current, resulting in increased reliability.
The DCR for the PF0464.302 (at 3uH, 3A) is 17mohm typically and 22mohm maximum.
The PF0464.104 (at 100uH, 0.54A) has a 400mohm typical value and 505mohm maximum value.
The PF0465.332 (at 3.3uH, 3.5A) has a 16mohm typical value and 20mohm at maximum value, and the PF0465.104 (at 100uH, 0.65A) has a DCR at 286mohm typical value and 350mohm maximum value.
Tolerances are at +/-20%.
These components are tested to withstand a peak solder reflow temperature of 260C.
These shielded inductors are designed for use in DC/DC conversion applications including distributed power architecture for multiple board equipment such as rack-mount equipment found in telecommunications network infrastructure or in stand-alone equipment like a modem, switch or hub.
